Done a great job

Steven Mackenzie is the very deserving inaugural winner of the Box Lots “Done a Great Job” award.

Although offered in a very light hearted manner, the award is significant in the sense that it’s issue is not governed or assigned as simply a monthly or annual gesture, nor is it adopted policy. It is offered when seen to be appropriate by the store manager as a genuine acknowledgement of the employee having taken “ownership” of the position and gone the extra mile to achieve.
This award serves also as a reminder of our prime purpose to employ, train and encourage the disadvantaged within the community.

Steven has been with Box Lots since day one, and is never without a smile. His efforts to improve our displays as well as interact with our clients have been enormous.
Steven is the epitome of the enthusiasm we try to encourage within Box Lots.

Bowman a community inspiration

From the Mackay Mercury
TARAH Bowman’s many achievements have not gone unnoticed.
The Box Lots staff member has won the Pioneer Employment Service’s inaugural Sue Tyshing Inspirational Achievement Award, which recognises those who have achieved or exceeded a nominated personal goal, conquered the boundaries of their disability or raised awareness in the broader community of a particular issue.

Ms Bowman, who has experienced mental illness throughout her life, has been a strong and active advocate for people with a mental illness.
Tri Q general manager Bernie Scott said her involvement with the Mental Illness Fellowship began as a client and had progressed to her becoming a mentor and volunteer for the program.
She recently held her first art exhibition, ‘Let’s unscrew the taboo on Mental Illness’, that portrays her journey from ‘Hell to Well’,and also featured on the Four Corners TV program, with the Choir of Unheard Voices, regarding the Mental Health services in Mackay, he said.
The award is named to recognise the unselfish dedication of Sue Tyshing to assisting people with disabilities.

What is Box Lots?

Box Lots is a budget conscious, bulk grocery clearance outlet. Our aim is to provide a wide selection of every day grocery items. Through the efforts of Tri Q, many otherwise disadvantaged people benefit, their families benefit and our community benefits.

Tri-Q provides a diverse array of employment opportunities for those who are disadvantaged or living with a disability. We greatly value the skills and life experiences volunteers bring, both from practical aspects of assisting with our day to day operations.
